Sailing the British Virgin Islands
After a first night in Puerto Rico we took a flight to Tortola (British
Virgin Islands ) where we joined the Sunsail base at the Hodge's
Creek Marina. Here we checked in on a Beneteau Oceanis 423 (sailboat). First we
bought our provisions and got settled and then we started our sailing trip by
crossing the Drake Channel in the direction of Norman island where we found a
nice anchorage with snorkelling. In order to avoid any damages of the
underwater sound, most anchorages are equipped with buoys.
From here we sailed to the lovely Marina Cay, to the Baths (Virgin Gorda
Cay) and spent the night in the Virgin Gorda North Sound.
Our next goal was Anegada, the northernmost of the British Virgin Islands . Anegada is flat and low. Its
highest point is only about 8.5 m above sea level. Though it is not far
away you can see it only when you're rather close to it. On the North side of
the island we had wonderful snorkelling grounds.
From Anegada we sailed down to the Great Camanoe island, where we spent
the night in Lee Bay Great Harbour
From here we sailed to Peter island passing Soper's Hole on the East end
of Tortola and back to Hodge's Creek, our
Sunsail base.
Before leaving we spent a day visiting San Juan ,
the capital of Puerto Rico .
